Steven Universe Future Season 2 Release Date
‘Steven Universe Future’ season 1, also known as ‘Steven Universe’ Season 6 premiered on December 7, 2019, and ended its run with a four-episode finale on March 27, 2020, on Cartoon Network. The series consists of a total of 20 episodes with a runtime of 11 minutes each.
As far as season 2 is concerned, here’s what we know. The first season of the show was lauded for its responsible representation of childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, LGBTQI+ characters, etc. Although season 1 is advanced as a limited series and ends on a conclusive note, there’s a chance that the makers might want to extend the tale of the Gem universe by exploring Steven’s arc, as he transits from a vulnerable teen to a responsible young man.
In a conversation with Variety, the show’s creator, Rebecca Sugar, said, “It has been an eye-opening experience to meet the community that has come together around the show: I have been so moved, and I have felt so seen. Though our epilogue series is coming to a close, please trust that like us, these characters will always be growing, changing, and supporting each other.” Is she hinting a possible renewal?
At this point, the chances of the show coming back is 50-50. If and when it is renewed, we expect ‘Steven Universe Future’ season 2 to release sometime in 2021, on Cartoon Network.
Steven Universe Future Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?
Except for a few, almost all the members from the main cast of season 1 might reprise their roles in season 2. Zach Callison will lend his voice to Steven Universe, while Estelle will be the voice behind Garnet. Michaela Dietz and Deedee Magno Hall might return to voice Amethyst and Pearl, respectively.
The talented voice ensemble might also include Tom Scharpling as Greg Universe, Grace Rolek as Connie Maheswaran, Charlyne Yi as Ruby, Erica Luttrell as Sapphire, Kimberly Brooks as Jasper, Michelle Maryk as Larimar, Jennifer Paz as Lapis Lazuli, Shelby Rabara as Peridot, among others.
Steven Universe Future Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?
Season 1 is set after the events of the eponymous movie, which takes place two years after the finale of ‘Steven Universe.’ Throughout the season, Steven struggles to discover his true calling and gets frustrated and anxious when he fails to analyze his ever-changing new powers. Finally, Connie takes him to her mother, who informs Steven, that his mental and physical health is getting progressively worse because of the impact of his traumatic childhood and his constant efforts at evading the need for help. In the finale, we see Steven leaving his people behind to go to Homeworld, seeking help from the Diamonds. When everything fails, Steven is forced to make a difficult choice, which will affect his future.
In season 2, Steven might forego his need for protection and transform into a matured version of himself. We can expect Steven to try and balance his expectations from people and also work towards bettering his mental health. Steven might even learn to tame his powers to prevent them from exerting unnecessary control over his mind and body. The second season might also introduce new threats that will force Steven and his Gem friends to come together to deal with it.

Episode 1: Full Disclosure
The Monks and Gems stands in front of the wrecked Gem Warship. Steven was still on his phone with Connie as mention before. They were still shell shocked from the Malachite fusion and them being dragged into the ocean. Raimundo removed his face palm and takes a deep breath. 'Well, at least it didn't get worse.' Raimundo said. 'Yea, but it could have been a lot better' Garnet said. The shot shows a lot of flaming wreckage around the lighthouse and the temple. 'Man, this is going to be one massive clean up.' Clay said. 'Not only that, we still have-' Kimiko was saying before Amethyst cheers in Steven and to the phone. Steven was startled from that.
'Well, I guess Amethyst is open for celebration.' Raimundo said. 'I see you, Rai.' Amethyst said to Raimundo, giving him a big hug. Raimundo chuckles and gives Amethyst a pat on the head. Just then, Greg arrived. 'Steven!' Greg shouts out with a worried tone. 'Hey, Greg, a little late to the party.' Raimundo quips. 'Wait...Raimundo? You're back?!' Greg said surprised as Steven arrived. Greg notices Steven's black eye. 'Ohh...what happened?' Greg asked.
'Well, those gems were most strong. They had this backup named Jasper and She was most strong.' Omi said. 'Not only that, Jack and Wuya managed to partner up again and they absolutely curb stomp all of us.' Clay added. 'To add salt to the wound, they managed to split me into two, and renamed my evil side Jackson.' Raimundo said. 'With all that, they managed to capture us and took us on the ship. However, Thanks to Raimundo, he managed to free us.' Kimiko said. 'We overrode them, but had to crash the ship as a result.' Clay said. 'Thankfully, Steven with his bubble allowed us to survive the crash.' Raimundo said. 'However, there still a lot of most issues around us, like Peridot, Wuya, Jackson, and Jack escaped and are out there somewhere.' Omi added. All Steven can do was slightly nods. 'They said it at best.' Steven said with awkward chuckle. 'Guys, I'm supportive of all of you...but I need time to simmer down.' Greg said, rushing to the van. He tries to calm down but no avail. Steven's phone rings again and he doesn't pick up. Raimundo subtly notices it and began to realized something. Steven is afraid to tell Connie. Maybe if he help out, he could let Connie down easily. Just then the van breaks down and all Raimundo do was chuckle lightly a bit.
Out in the outskirts of Beach City, the escape pod crashlanded in a wheat field. The pod opens and Jack crawls out of it, dripping wet with the transparent goo. 'HOW DID I BREATHE IN THAT?!' Jack shouts. Peridot gets out of it along with Wuya and Jackson. 'Pipe down, Jack. The Monks and Gems could have heard us.' Wuya said. 'Unlikely. Apparently, we are well outside their borders so it would need something like a flare to set them off.' Peridot said. Jack began to ponder something. 'Should we head to Chy?' Jack said. 'Wait, you want to meet Chy?' Wuya said. 'Of course I do, I idolize him with a lot of passion.' Jack said. 'Okay…who the heck is Chy?' Peridot said. All Jack could do is glare. 'What?' Peridot said. 'Chy…is actually Chase Young. One of the most powerful Heylin ever walked the earth.' Jack said with a massive smile. 'Besides, If I can convince him to train me, I might be able to become more powerful than before. Especially with Project Morph and Project Rebirth.' 'Mmm…I do want to know this 'Chase Young' you are speaking highly of.' Peridot said. 'We'll get to the cluster situation soon, Peridot. But before that, we need to meet up with Chase Young. I want nothing more than the best to help all of us out.' Jack said.
'Here's one problem…WE DON'T HAVE ANY WUS!' Jackson said. Jack places up his right index finger. 'Ah ah…I managed to snag 4 wus.' Jack said. He then shows the Eye of Dashi, Ring of Nine Dragons, Third-Arm Sash and Changing Chopsticks. 'I managed to smuggled these four to help us out.' Jack added. Wuya was stunned and somewhat impressed. 'Why are you impressing me so much as of late, Jack?' Wuya said. 'Well, ever since that backstab, I have a fire that lit under me and is only gotten more fierce with this recent loss.' Jack said. 'While it originally simmer down after I poofed Garnet, when she reformed and beating Jasper, the fire was lit up again.' he added. This made Peridot realized something. 'Wait. Whatever happened to Jasper and Lapis?' Peridot said with a massive question. Wuya just scoffs. 'Look, the ship crash and we don't know their fate at this point. At this time, we need to get some extra hands and Chase is our best bet.' Wuya said.
'I'm sorry, Peridot, but I got to agree with Wuya.' Jack said. Peridot groans in frustration but she has little saying. They know Earth more than her and considering they have a plan that could help them out…she's left with little to no options. 'Augh… fine.' Peridot said. Just then, Jack's stomach rumbles in hunger. 'Looks like we'll need to eat on the road.' Jack said. He presses a button. 'Food will arrive in 25 minutes. We need a good amount of food to keep us tide over for our long march.' Jack said. Peridot was perplexed by this. 'Jack, you do realize that I don't need to eat, right?' Peridot said. 'I know but I figured Wuya and/or Jackson would need food.' Jack said. 'I guess you are kinda right.' Jackson said. They began walking as Wuya realized something. 'Shouldn't you use your helicopter backpack, Jack?' Wuya said. 'Well, the thing is that the Monks and Gems could find me more easily and thus find us more easily. It's better to walk and be shrouded in the shadows than to be a beacon to where we are.' Jack said. Wuya thinks a bit and ultimately drops the question. 'Alright…' Wuya said. 'This is going to be one long march.' Jack said.
The following day, Steven was sitting on top of a cliff. He's yet to tell Connie what happened and considering what happened to Greg, he's getting scared that Connie would be overwhelmed by it and would be scared to even talk to Steven. Steven looks out on the cliff to see a lot of wreckage of the warship on the beach. It just made him more sad. Just then, he heard two whistles in very short successions. Steven turns to see...Raimundo. 'Oh! Hey, Raimundo. What brings you here?' Steven said. 'I'm your friend, you know me, I want to help out as much as I can. Plus, They just told me Lars said hi.' Raimundo said. 'So…what's been going on since my…well, departure?' Steven remained quiet. 'Something's wrong, Steven?' Raimundo said.
Steven phone rings again and it's Connie. 'Trouble in paradise, I assume?' Raimundo said. Steven declines the call and turns to Raimundo. 'You saw what happened to my dad…' Steven said. 'He flipped out and I'm worried that Connie would do the same and just never speak to me again.' 'Look, Steven, you don't know it would happened unless it does happen first hand.' Raimundo said. Steven remained quiet and Raimundo sighs. 'Steven, I want to tell you…Master Fung told me a quote that is stuck to me like glue…I must not dwell in failure or I may not be able to leave it.' Raimundo said. Steven looks up to Raimundo. 'Meaning?' Steven said. 'I think it was straight forward, you can't dwell on one thing for too long or you may not be able to get over it. That's how I managed to finally bested Tubbimura in that showdown. Garnet needed me to get over to succeed. I realized this while on my exile. That's one of the reason why I came back.' Raimundo added.
This made Steven think some more. He does care for Connie but he also cares for her safety. However, Raimundo did give a good argument. 'Everyone did tell me that the Gem's stuff is dangerous and I didn't believe till recently.' Steven said. 'I care for Connie and I care for her safety. But how will she handle it with the whole issues.' Raimundo then got a suggestion. 'Maybe talk to Connie once you feel ready to tell her. She's worried about you and you worry about her. Maybe when you feel like you are ready to tell her everything, I'll help out. If she does leave you, I'll comfort you.' Raimundo said. Steven softly smile and began to get up. The phone rings again and he declines… for now.
Back to Jack, Peridot, Wuya, and Jackson, they were reached a large plain and were still walking. Jack was drinking water from a water bottle he got from his jackbot as Peridot, Wuya and Jackson following suit. Jack looks up to the sky and sees several jackbots arrive with lunch. 'Alright, break time.' Jack said as he sits down in the plains. Wuya, Jackson, and Peridot soon sits down as well. 'We've been walking for 4 hours now. How much farther is till we reached Chase Young' Peridot said. 'Well, he's about a 26 hour walk from Beach City if…I recall.' Wuya said. Jack notice the pause. 'Were you told of Chase's Location? If so, by whom?' Jack said. Wuya sighs. 'I can't tell you who but this person did indeed tell me where Chase is and I like to keep this person anonymous.' Wuya said.
Jack thinks a bit. 'Why would you do that? I mean you can tell me who. Heck, even whisper in my ear.' Jack said. Wuya thinks a bit and whisper it to Jack's ear. Jack's face was shocked. 'No way?! That's great. Another Heylin person to work with.' Jack said. 'Just keep the name quiet. Don't want a repeat on what happened to Peridot, got it?' Wuya said. Jack nods. 'Right, those Monks and Gems spilled the surprise, but not this one.' Jack said as he began eating his food. Wuya also began eating, albeit a bit slowly. She began pondering something. What if the Gems and Monks find them? Would they be able to handle them? Can they beat the Monks and Gems now with their plans exposed? How would they recapture more wus? There's a lot more questions than answer and it bugging the living daylights out of her. All she could do is hope that the answers come to her sooner rather than later. They are so uncertain if Chase is even willing to help with so few wus they have but all they can do is hope. That's all that's matters.
Back in Beach City, the Gems were discussing about cleaning up the beach for the residents of Beach City as they slowly return. Steven was sitting on the couch thinking a bit. 'Come on...' Amethyst bemoans. 'Well, Garnet did say we have to clean the beach for the humans.' Clay said. 'That's correct, besides, people are coming back into town.' Pearl said. Steven stands up and walks to the window, he is finalizing his decision. 'Raimundo, can I ask you to join me to tell Connie about what happened?' Steven said. 'Of course, Steven.' Raimundo said with a smile. Just then, Steven's phone rings again. This time…he answers it. 'Hey, Connie. I want to tell you…I want to tell you to meet me on the beach. I need to have a chat with you.' Steven said. 'Alright, see you soon.' Steven then hangs up. Steven takes a deep breath. 'Good work, Steven.' Raimundo said. Steven softly smiles. A bit later, Connie was waiting on the beach, looking over the wreckage in awe. 'What the heck happened here?' Connie said. Just then, she felt a tap. She turns to see Steven and Raimundo. 'Oh my gosh, Steven. Your eye, what happened to it?' Connie said with a gasp. 'And Raimundo, what are you doing here?' Steven takes a deep breath. 'Do you want to know everything?' Steven said. Connie looks a bit worried but softly nods.
A bit later, Raimundo and Steven explained everything to Connie. 'So…Lapis and Jasper fused and are at the bottom of the ocean…' Connie said. 'Yep, and Peridot, Jack, Wuya and Jackson are still on the run.' Raimundo said. 'That is a lot to take in.' Connie said. 'So...are you okay with it?' Steven said with a worried tone. 'Are you okay? You guys were the ones that went through all of that. The least I can do is listen. Besides… I want to be part of your universe, Steven.' Connie said. All Steven can do is smile. Just then, Greg, Master Fung and Dojo arrive with the Monks in tow. 'Woah, woah, what's going on guys?' Raimundo said. 'Well, after I calmed down, Master Fung asked if it's alright to surprise you with something special.' Greg said. 'That is indeed correct' Master Fung said as he pulls out a blue sash. 'For your bravery on rescuing the Monks and helping everyone escape, I think it's appropriate to right the wrong and promote you to Xiaolin Apprentice.' Master Fung adds. Raimundo was taken aback but was humble by it. 'I…I don't know what else to say but…thank you.' Raimundo said as he received the sash and puts it on. 'Now that all 4 of you guys are Xiaolin Apprentice, You can do the Dragon X-Kumei Formation' Dojo said. They demonstrates the Dragon X-Kumei Formation and does it beautifully.
Steven Universe Season 1 Episode 20
'Wow, I don't know how else to thank all of you guys.' Raimundo said. 'Well, we should be thanking you.' Kimiko said. 'If it wasn't for you, we might not have been able to escape and give the Heylin and Peridot a surprise attack.' 'Plus, We wanted to make up for the Mala Mala Jong incident as you did technically save the gems from potentially being shattered by Wuya.' Clay added. Raimundo could just smile. Steven and Connie got into Greg's van and began riding around Beach City. The citizens began to return to their normal life, even though it's going to be a good while. For the Monks, This was the day to remember as all 4 of them are now Xiaolin Apprentice and can do the Dragon X-Kumei Formation. For Raimundo, he's a bit more happy that his friends managed to make up for him and gave him the Apprentice sash, allowing him to fully redeem from his Mala Mala Jong incident and gives him motivation to give Wuya some payback in the future. For today…It was simply the best thing for all parties involved…excluding the Heylin and Peridot.
